印尼驗出超毒M&M's 同產地朱古力港有售幼童吃數粒可致腎石

【明報專訊】三聚氰胺毒奶遺害愈揭愈厲害，暢銷全球的國際知名朱古力品牌Mars，旗下M&M's三款朱古力和Snickers，以及卡夫出產的Oreo朱古力威化條，均被印尼當局驗出極高濃度的三聚氰胺，其中一款M&M's牛奶朱古力三聚氰胺含量竟達856.3ppm，成人吃一包已超出安全標準，3歲幼童甚至吃數粒已有生腎石危險。

令人關注的是，印尼驗出上述各款問題朱古力，生產地和公司資料，均與本港市面出售的同款朱古力完全相同，有關化驗報告早於27日（周六）發表，但本港食物安全中心截至昨晚仍只表示「會與印尼當局跟進」，未就本港市面同款朱古力需否停售、市民應否停吃等作回應或指引。

超市惠康和百佳均表示，正向食環署跟進事件，等待當局提供資料和指引，暫未能作回收或下架決定。

被印尼食品及藥物監察機構（BPOM）揭發三聚氰胺含量驚人的奶製食品，全部均註明由內地生產，包括Oreo Wafer Sticks（蘇州生產）；M&M's牛奶朱古力、花生朱古力和迷你朱古力（北京生產）；Snickers（中國生產）；以及由上海冠生園出產的大白兔奶糖，三聚氰胺含量由24.44至945.86ppm不等。

Oreo同驗出成人吃一包超標

據食環署引用的美國食物及藥物管理局標準，三聚氰胺每日可容忍攝入量，為成人每日每公斤體重0.63毫克，3歲以下嬰幼則為每日每公斤體重0.32毫克，以此計算，一包重90克（5條裝）的Oreo朱古力威化條，含有32.94毫克三聚氰胺，50公斤成人吃一包已超標，重10公斤幼童吃半條也有危險。

Snickers 幼童吃3包或出事

含856.3ppm三聚氰胺的M&M's牛奶朱古力毒害更驚人，一包48克重朱古力，竟含41.1毫克三聚氰胺，成人吃四分三包已可出事，幼孩甚至吃數粒也有機會生腎石。Snickers三聚氰胺含量相對低，一包59克重的朱古力約含1.44毫克三聚氰胺，但幼童一日吃3包可出事。

議員促全面叫停國產奶品

候任立法會議員李華明稱，對有關化驗結果感到「極為震驚」，他批評食環署處事手法追不上毒奶蔓延的速度，「Oreo卡夫出產，卡夫品牌的芝士會否有事？我們又飲奶，還有朱古力、餅乾……食環署仍以流水作業式化驗處理，根本不能保障市民！」他認為當局應全面「叫停」中國製奶類食品，由入口商和製造商驗明無事才批准出售，否則等到署方化驗出問題，市民已吃進肚裏。

上星期已有傳聞指Oreo曲奇和M&M's朱古力均受到三聚氰胺污染，台灣上周也全面將M&M's朱古力下架，但上周Oreo生產商卡夫食品和M&M's生產商Mars均否認事件，強調奶源安全。

Mars香港指化驗報告不合理

Mars香港公司發言人說，食環署23日發表的化驗報告，並無發現M&M's牛奶朱古力和Snickers含三聚氰胺，他們的奶品原材料亦來自內地當局證實無問題的公司，而且製造朱古力，奶粉只佔所有原材料的11％，惟印尼驗出濃度如此高的三聚氰胺根本不合理，化驗報告值得商榷。Mars印尼公司的代表今日會與檢驗當局跟進。

理大八餐廳食物細菌超標
情況若無改善　將更換供應商

【記者梁美寶報道】理工大學定期抽查校內其中九間餐廳的衞生情況， 3 月至 8 月的最新結果顯示，當中八間的樣本不合格，包括大腸桿菌、沙門氏菌及細菌總含量超標，學者指餐廳的衞生情況令人憂慮。理大將與有關機構開會，建議停售有關食物，一旦情況沒有改善，考慮更換膳食供應商。
理大校內共有 11 間餐廳，其中一間因裝修暫停營業，另一間由校方自行營運，並不在校方膳食委員會定期抽查範圍，即 3 月至 8 月份接受由理大應用生物及化學科技學系抽查的只有九間餐廳，結果顯示，管理三間餐廳的美心集團、大家樂旗下三間餐廳、城軒集團的聚賢樓及 Oliver's Super Sandwiches 共八間餐廳的食物樣本不合格，只有一間位於宿舍的大家樂合格。

曾受動物糞便污染
其中一間大家樂的油雞、火腿芝士三文治樣本均超標，據食環署標準，每克食物不應含超過 100 粒大腸桿菌計算，油雞樣本超標 180 粒，三文治超標 550 粒，凍奶茶樣本超標 1,220 粒。
美心餐廳的樣本同樣未如理想，菜沙律樣本更雙重超標，除大腸桿菌達每克 1,850 粒外，細菌總量更高達 756,000 粒，超標七倍。城軒集團中式酒樓聚賢樓的紅豆椰汁糕及桂花糕樣本也被驗出含大腸桿菌，前者更含沙門氏菌。
香港大學微生物學系助理授黃世賢指，若樣本含大腸桿菌即表示有關食物曾受動物糞便污染，服食者可能肚瀉或患腸胃炎；若含沙門氏菌情況更令人憂慮，因該菌多數會引致肚瀉、發燒，約 5% 人士會出現細菌入血等較嚴重的併發症，其中年幼、年老或胃分泌較少者更為危險。

理大學生會會長陳喜偉對餐廳食物含菌超標感驚訝，希望餐廳可改善衞生情況。

理大美心學生飯堂的女經理昨日拒絕回應有關報告。負責理大的大家樂經理未有回覆本報查詢。 Oliver's Super Sandwiches 的經理則說，抽驗當日所取的樣本屬冷藏溫度，她指該公司每次出售有關包時，均會以攝氏 250 度高溫的焗爐加熱，相信可把所有細菌殺死。聚賢樓的蕭姓經理稱，現已暫停售賣該兩款糕點，並加強衞生程序。

大學飯堂衞生欠佳
理大飯堂食物含菌量超標只屬大學飯堂衞生問題的冰山一角。港大、浸大、科大、院及城大的學生飯堂早前曾多次被學生投訴衞生欠佳。其中港大七名學生光顧飯堂後食物中毒，更需入院治理。

食品質素差
由大家樂旗下泛亞營運的育學院學生飯堂早前接受食物抽驗，也被發現三個樣本含大腸桿菌。港大上月底更曾發生食物中毒事件，七名新生在施德堂的何添堂百味廚餐廳用膳後，懷疑食物中毒，被送往瑪麗醫院治理。
對於校方抽驗多間餐廳食物衞生欠佳，理大學生會會長陳喜偉坦言，對結果感震驚及擔心。「我平日表面上睇 canteen 好似衞生都 ok ，點知咁多超標。仲有好多食品冇抽查，都唔知有冇事，希望佢可以改善。」
據知，各間大學均要求膳食供應商為學生提供較便宜的食物，雖然校方會收取食肆較便宜的租金，但許多食肆經營者認為利潤不夠多，因而將價就貨，不少學生曾投訴食品質素欠佳。本報記者

中國飼料爆已摻毒5年混入三聚氰胺廢料
禽畜水產內臟「最好別吃」

【大陸中心╱綜合報導】中國由三聚氰胺引發的毒奶粉事件越演越烈，現在連豬、牛、羊、雞以及鰻魚等動物飼料也傳遭業者摻入三聚氰胺廢料，毒物恐經牛、羊吸收後，進到人類肚子裡。據化工專業人員透露，實際上從5年前開始，業者即已摻入三聚氰胺廢料。專家警告，目前最好避免食用毒量聚積的動物內臟以保健康。

根據《南方農村報》報導，儘管中國官方從去年7月起便明確禁止在飼料內添加任何以三聚氰胺製成的蛋白精，但一名曾從事蛋白精生產的原料供應商日前卻爆料，中國飼料廠早已改用由三聚氰胺生產過程中的廢料來製作成新的「廢料蛋白精」，並摻入各種家禽家畜與水產的飼料內牟利。

「廢料生意火爆」
另一名不願透露姓名的化工專業人員更表示，實際上從5年前開始，許多三聚氰胺生產公司為省下找環保公司處理生產廢料的費用，私自將三聚氰胺廢料低價轉賣給飼料原料行。他還說：「目前各大廠的廢料生意非常火爆，基本沒有剩餘」。
飼料原料行則打著「生物科技公司」名號，將每公噸成本僅1千8百元台幣左右的廢料，直接轉包裝為「蛋白精」，並以每公噸1萬7千元台幣左右的價格賣給下游飼料業者。

內臟易殘留毒物
江蘇省一間蛋白精供應商坦承，目前包括牛羊豬飼料、家禽和水產飼料，尤其是鱉與鰻魚的飼料，都已或多或少混有此種廢料蛋白精。
林口長庚醫院毒物科主任林杰樑接受《蘋果》採訪時對此痛罵：「用更便宜的廢料製造蛋白精，這比用三聚氰胺還更黑心。」
林杰樑說，這種廢料蛋白精與三聚氰胺的毒性類似，目前因無法得知畜養動物所吃下的數量，所以毒性在肉類及水產品的殘留仍有待主管機關檢驗。
他提出警告：「通常內臟的毒物殘留是最多的，最好避免食用。」

一般蛋白精即指三聚氰胺，但此次披露的蛋白精為三聚氰胺生產過程中產生的廢料，其成本比三聚氰胺更便宜，同樣含有大量氮元素，可在檢測中呈現高蛋白質假象，許多中國不肖商人將廢料以「蛋白精」的名義出售，並摻入飼料中製造高蛋白質假象牟利。目前已知不少中國生產的家禽（雞、鴨等）、家畜（豬、牛、羊等）以及水產養殖（特別在鱉與鰻魚類）飼料的廠商，皆在飼料內非法添加此種三聚氰胺廢料製成的蛋白精。

我喜歡玩遊戲機，特別有一個賽車遊戲，有最多8為選手，在不同的賽道上沖破重重機關行駛，中途會得到禮物，幫助自己行駛得更快。可能同樣地被好玩的遊戲吸引，大人同小朋友玩遊戲機的熱情一樣高漲，當然，無論係大人或小朋友，玩，最終都係想贏。

直至有一次，我同一位小朋友玩賽車遊戲，又係一共8位選手共同奮進，大家全情投入，不亦樂乎，玩到最後，小朋友興奮地躍起，高呼“我贏咗第八啊，妳睇，我贏咗第八啦……”

我從來沒有想到過，玩這個賽車遊戲，排第八原來可以稱為“贏”……但在小朋友單純的內心，他大概認為自己已經盡力做到了最好，也不懷疑自己是最好的……然而，孩童內心這麼一個理所當然的道理，放在大人的世界，早被唾棄至萬劫不復了，世界上哪有大人會將做事排第尾的人看作贏家？我們自己又怎麼能夠接受自己排第尾？

這畢竟是小朋友獨享的專利，而且人們擁有這種專利權的時限很短暫，幾乎不曾發生過，所以我們才忘記了……

Windows 2000 與 WPA

事緣公司入面有個位(windows 2000 機)個lan 頭壞左, 又唔想整條線, 所以是但搵左個usb wireless client (linksys wusb11)俾佢用.
但係公司既router 都set左 WPA,而個wireless client driver只係可以响windows xp 上面support WPA. 即係唔support windows 2000.

去到microsoft 度搵左一輪,俾我發現左

"Microsoft 尚不提供 WPA 支援，不過 Microsoft 以外的公司可能有提供。"

死得, linksys driver 唔support, 而windows 個度又話唔得

好彩俾我搵到原來mcafee 放左個wpa client 出黎,裝左之後部機就會support WPA.

The basilisk is part of the iguana family. It, along with the Brown basilisk, has the nickname the "Jesus Christ Lizard" or "Jesus Lizard" because when fleeing from a predator, it gathers sufficient momentum to run on top of water for a brief distance. This is what I did to install Windows XP AFTER Vista with NO Vista DVD:
1. Using vista shrink volume, make another partition for d:\winxp
2. Clean install XP using cd then continue install the necessary drivers.
3. Install .Net Framework 2.0 and VistaBootPro
4. While in VistaBootPRO:
Manage OS entries Tab: add windows legacy for xp-drive letter c:
Bootloader Tab: Click Apply at "Reinstall the Vista bootloader"
5. Make sure boot.ini, ntldr and ntdetect already at root drive c:
(can also copy from the xp cd folder I386)
6. Restart computer to see the dual boot menu.

事緣今日想試下用部vista 既notebook去燒下cd, 諗住vista應該有built-in 既燒碟software. 搵左一輪發覺vista好似 xp 咁只可以 drag-n-drop d files 去個 writer drive 度, 之後就燒而唔可以燒 iso.

What is Web 2.0? This is the question right now. So let's answer it.

Web 2.0 is about four different interacting things:

1. Community. This is the most obvious one. Community is basically interaction between members, between websites, and between the website admins and its members. In the old days, we had the BBS and then IRC and then forums. Now it's more of the same, but also extended in one crucial way: we are happy to share without claiming ownership. The best example is Wikipedia: no one claims copyright control over it, and so we are breaking the traditional authorship rights. When we contribute to Wikipedia, anyone can read our contribution, anyone can copy it, anyone can edit, and dang it, anyone can delete it. This is very new.

The other new thing is voting. Now we have popularity contests of our contributions. Our forums have reps, delicious has the popular lists, and of course digg is the ultimate voting system. If you think hard, you can also convince yourself, Google's PageRank is essentially an algorithm that measures social popularity (link = vote).

2. Technology. Here we talk about XML, APIs, new content management systems like blogs and wikis, and if you're that inclined, sure, AJAX. The new technologies support the formation of communities and the interactions I explained above. XML gives us RSS and AJAX. APIs are a more general term that gives us mashups, and arguably, everything else. Basically, it's the use of standard technologies everyone agrees on. This, IMHO, is the biggest "technological" breakthrough: actually agreeing on a technical standard!!!

3. Architecture. This is best described by the Cluetrain Manifesto as:

粵語（廣東話‧Cantonese ）的粗言，是各種語言中，最為粗俗的粗言之一，廣東話稱為「粗口」。

廣東粗口種類繁多，應用層面非常廣闊，加上粗口易用易學，一傳十；十傳百；千家曉；萬家用。

粗口文化不斷精簡、改善、創造，年青人尤其熱衷。

所謂長江後浪推前浪，我們強力建議父母不要以粗口責罵子女──那是沒有用的。在子女們聽來，父母口中言，就像慈母手中線──又幼又軟。你會用一條線仔去教育子女嗎？當然不會了。

如果你已能操一口流利的粗口，這部份你會看得非常親切，甚至有「照鏡子」的感覺。

至於「照鏡子」時會否令你不安，那可是閣下的事，與筆者無關。

如果你是飲蒸餾水的乖仔乖女，別向人說本文教壞你，本文只是詳細介紹粵語粗口，就像「警訊」播放賊人犯案過程一樣，沒有人叫你學，你過目不忘，領悟力高，那是你的事。而且學了亦不一定要做，正如用玻璃樽通櫃固然好爽，但不是人人也會做一樣。

廣東粗口，主要由五個主要粗口字組成。其他例如「仆街」、「陷家剷」，其實亦算是粗口，只是較五個主要粗口字為「溫和」及為人所接受。本篇文章將會詳述五個主要粗口字的意思、用途及文法。內容並附有範例，深入淺出，令讀者更易了解。

　

【前言】

粗口用途主要用作加強語言的意思及語氣，其次則作為形容物件或傳達訊息。

以廣東話為母語的人，不難理解粗口文法；加上旁人常於大家耳邊「爆粗」（一連串、密集地講粗口是為「爆粗」），相信居港讀者，無不對粗口耳熟能詳，對粗口文法已然有一定了解。如果您在粵語流行的地區居住，聽覺健全，而又不是三步不出閨門的話，恭喜您！您已有良好的粗口基礎，只要多加實習，即能靈活應用。

粗口使用方法，可分為「單獨字句運用」和「正規語言混雜」兩大類。

其中初用者多會使用前者；進階者兩者使用率相近；熟練者則多以後者為主，混雜粗口於普通言語中，甚至可以令人聽而不察。

單獨字句，是指可以單獨運用字詞本身意思去作表達，因此只需要知道那粗口，及明白其意思，即能應用，程度較「正規語言混集」為淺。

然而，要爆一口流暢（流利舒暢）的粗口，必需先對各粗口的性質及應用方法有所認識。下文將詳盡說明。

【五個主要粗口字】

五個主要廣東粗口字，依使用率排列：撚、屌、鳩、西、七

請參看各字意思和用途：

撚　　「撚」讀作ｎａｎ２。此字乃是假借字，「撚」字原來是指捏取、揉搓、撥弄之類的動作。而粗口「撚」字意思是：

　　　１：作名詞用，「陽具」的意思，量詞是「條」或「碌」。例子：大家男兒一條撚（大家男性都是一條陽具。）

　　　２：語氣助詞，本身無意思，用作加強語氣。例子：玩撚完！（一切都完了！）

　　　３：助詞，用作顛倒句子意思。例子：有撚飯食！（沒有飯吃。）

文法：

　　　就「撚」字的應用方式來說，用作單獨字句使用的比例較少。

「撚」字通常會混雜在正規語言之間，幫助加強語氣。如果作名詞用，只需像普通名詞般使用即可，「撚」字作名詞用的例子：

　　　好大條撚　（很大條的陽具。）

　　　索女含撚好難忍　（漂亮的女郎含著陽具，令人很難忍受。）

　　　「撚」字所以最多人用，是因它用作詞氣助詞時易上口、最能填補句子的空隙。通常放在句子的形容詞、動詞或名詞之前，但不會放在句首，用作加強句子語氣，例子：

　　　形容詞前：條友好過癮　→　條友好撚過癮　（過癮是形容詞。）

　　　　　　　　好好玩呀！？　→　好撚好玩呀！？　（好玩是形容詞。）

　　　名詞前　：食屎　→　食撚屎　（屎是名詞。）

　　　動詞前　：唔食　→　唔撚食　（食是動詞。）

另外「撚」字亦可以加入一句句子中，使該句成為反話，使用方法和「語氣助詞」差不多。例子：

　　　有用　→　有撚用　（沒有用的意思。）　

　　　係　→　係撚　（不是的意思。這個是特別例子，撚字很少會放在句末。）

將「撚」字夾雜入一句句子的例子：

　　　好想搞大佢黎玩！→好撚想搞大佢黎玩！　（這是最正統的說法。重點在於「好想」。）

　　　→好想搞撚大佢黎玩！　（重點在於「搞大」。）

　　　→好撚想搞撚大佢黎玩！　（略嫌累贅。）

常見的單獨字句應用：

　　　含撚　（用口含著陽具。常用作辱罵他人，包括同性。）

屌　　「屌」音ｄｉｕ２，正寫為「門內添一小」。由於屌字不能打出，打字時通常會用「屌」字替代。

「屌」字意思：

　　　１：名詞用，「陽具」的意思，量詞是「條」。

　　　２：動詞用，指陰莖插入陰道的動作（尤指強姦）。例子：大家一齊屌條女！

（大家一起把陰莖強行插入那女子的陰道裡！）

　　　３：動詞用，詞義是「侮辱」，帶強烈侮辱性，是由（１）的意思引申出來。用作辱罵他人，不論同性異性均可。

例子：我屌你呀！（我嚴重地侮辱你！）

　　　４：語氣助詞，用作表現強烈感嘆或厭惡，通常單字使用。例子：屌！（讀時短促而音重，被人或物煩擾時表現厭惡。）　屌……（拉長讀，表現失望的心情。）

　　　５：語氣助詞，用作表現突然的驚嘆。例子：嘩！屌！（突然見到極醜的東西時。）

文法：

　　　「屌」字屬於單獨字句運用的粗口，獨位性相當強，意思亦很強烈，運用容易，可作為粗口的代表字，亦最為人熟悉。然而，卻不能像「撚」字一樣插入一句句子中作助語詞，所以使用率反而不及「撚」字高。「屌」字所組成的詞句，花樣很多，例子可見「常見的單獨字句應用」。

「屌」字亦可以放在句首或句末，有加強語氣的作用：

　　　好撚想搞大佢黎玩！　→　屌！好撚想搞大佢黎玩！

　　　你又早洩喇！　→　你又早洩喇！屌！　（加強不滿的語氣）

　　　值得注意的是，雖然「屌」字可解作陽具，但在日常應用中，我們不會把「屌」字作名詞用。例如我們不會說「好大條屌」、「切屌」，我們只會說「好大條撚」、「切七」（「七」字將於下文詳述）。

常見的單獨字句應用：

　　　屌　（配合語氣，可用作表示不滿、震驚、厭煩、失望。）

　　　屌西　（用陰莖插入陰道裡，泛指男對女的性行為。「西」字將於下文詳述。）

　　　屌你老母　（嚴重侮辱你母親／用陰莖插入你母親的陰道。）

　　　屌你鹵味　（嚴重侮辱你。『為個人安全，建議用作代替屌你老母』。）

　　　屌鳩你　（同上，「鳩」字將於下文詳述。）

　　　４：助詞，顛倒句子意思。例子：我有我自由，理西你感受。（我有我自由，不用理會你的感受。）

文法：

　　　３：語氣助詞，本身無義。例子：玩乜七野呀？（玩什麼啊！？）

文法：

　　　「七」字是使用率最少的廣東粗口字。「七」字雖然可以作詞氣助詞，夾雜在句子中，然而讀起來並不順口。「七」字除用作形容詞外，應用範圍較少。

　　　「七」字作形容詞用的更多例子：

　　　打七佢！（把他打得變成很難看的樣子！）

　　　貌似北京狗，七到無人有。（容貌好像北京狗，難看笨拙得無人能比。）

Most LCD TV in the market will use HD-ready as the selling point. But you got to be carefully in choosing them as HD-ready doesnt worth much.

Here comes those HD standards: 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p.

480p : 480 lines of progressive video (480 lines per frame). DVD quality.
720p : 720 lines of progressive video (720 lines per frame).
1080i : 1080 lines of interlaced video (540 lines per field).
1080p : 1080 lines of progressive video (1080 lines per frame).

1080i and 1080p usually refers to 1920x1080 resolution and is often called Full HD..

As you can see, 1080p is the highest standard and the most difficult to achieve of course.

Sometimes you may come across some LCD TV claiming to be 1080p compatible but then you figure out it is only running at 1366×768 , are they cheating?

No, they are just telling you that their TV is capable to recieve 1080p signal but then they will downscale it into a video that fit to 768 lines.

Next time, be careful when choosing a HD-ready TV.

Tabs:

Open links in a new tab in the background : Ctrl+Click

Open links in a new tab in the foreground : Ctrl+Shift+Click

Switch between tabs : Ctrl+Tab / Ctrl+Shift+Tab

Open a new tab in the foreground from the address bar : Alt+Enter

Search:
Go to the Toolbar Search Box : Ctrl+E

30" LCD new comer

Dell has just announced to release a new 30 inch LCD monitor UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC to the market.

Their highly-coveted 30-inch monitor also got some modest, yet very welcome upgrades from the existing 3007WFP. The UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC now has a 92 percent color gamut which means it can display 92% of color defined in ntsc triangle while existing LCD monitors are just a bit more than 70%, and Dell claims will deliver brighter, crisper colors. It also has a faster 8ms grey-to-grey response time (vs 11ms on the old panel) and better contrast ratio 1000:1 (vs 700:1 on the old panel), in addition to all the features found on the original panel (like a 9-in-2 card reader and 4 USB ports).

The only weak point that worth mentioning is the input options, there are just 2 DVI ports available. I think users are demanding for HDMI / composite and even more.

Recently I need to migrate a nvidia 6600GT from one computer to another. The main concern that comes up is whether the PSU(power supply unit) is capable of handling this new device.

6600GT is known for its power comsumption and as I am using prescott 3.0E, I really need to make sure my PSU is with all components. Otherwise, unstability will be introduced and finally I am the one to suffer not enjoying it.

Here is what I did, i use a Power Supply Calculator provided by http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine . This tool is pretty easy, just input all components in your computer and it would suggest a amount of power that your computer needs. And you will have enough idea of what PSU you need. 3D Desktop II (Mandriva is just a joke!!)

I have talked about 3D Desktop in those popular linux distro before, and the last one i have tried is Mandriva 2007 Free.

Here comes my comment first: Mandriva 2007 Free is not for human beings!!

Let's see what happened to me. Ok, the whole installation is nice and user friendly. I choosed to get it auto login to "guest" with "drak3d" (this is how mandriva calls the 3D Desktop).

In the first boot, I would expect it enter X with xgl enabled. But nightmare comes. When X appears to me it asked me to provide root password, then it pops up a dialogue box and tells me that 3D desktop is not supported without a hint and reason. Then X restarted, the same thing i mentioned happened again. root password and then dialogue box.

I tried to google for a reason, WTF, there are ppl suggesting that we need to install "compiz". For those who of you dont know what is compiz, compiz the core component of 3D Desktop. What? It is not installed ?? @#XYZZ@$%&

I tried to google for some more manuals in the web, but you know what? Mandriva materials are mainly non-english, languages that you can think of over europe.

Finally the one that help is written in italian. OMG!

Luckily with a lot trial and guess and luck, i managed to make it work.

Let me repeat my comment for Mandriva 2007 Free: it is not for human beings!!

Bet your luck if you would like to try Mandriva. And may the god bless you.

22" LCD monitor

Currently I am thinking of replacing my existing 17" Philips LCD to a larger one.

I am not considering 19" LCD , coz a 19" 16:10 LCD is only a few percent larger and it will be running at 1440x900. No much gain, so it is out.

What about 20" LCD? oh well, 20" 16:10 is just one inch larger the former 19". But the resolution will be 1680x1050, i dont want to buy a magnifier for that. Again it's out.

What about 24" LCD? 24 inch is large enough, it is running at 1920x1200 which will be capable of displaying HD content, not only 720p/1080i but even 1080p. Sounds very nice but 24" costs a lot of money, a popular Dell 24" 2407 costs HKD5600 here...... I better invest this money on something else.

That means 30" is out neither. Dell 30" LCD costs ~HKD9999 here and Apple's 30" costs even more.

Here is my coming target, 22" LCD. 22" LCD's native resolution is the same of 20" which will be 1680x1050, i hope i wont need a magnifier for that. And the price is so attractive, Dell is selling a new 22" LCD for just HKD2688. And Viewsonic also provides you a good choice at HKD2690 now.

Water cooling ram

For those who of you dont know what it is, let me tell you. It is a pair of ram just like what you have in your computer.

But what's so funny about this? It is something really new to me and it does look like an armor, it is a pair of water cooling ram. In computer DIY world, water cooling is no longer a new term, is is not a difficult thing either. There are pre-made water-cooling systems outthere for newbies. And now ram finally joined this series.

Look at the pic again, it is a pair of ram made by OCZ of PC9200 which is marked to be running at 1150MHZ and it is expected to be overclocked further.

Sim City 星際節

This afternoon i went out for a walk in mong kok. Mong kok is such a funny place that it is filled with people there through out the day.

After finishing my personal stuff at the telco, i tried to find a place to get my christmas gifts ready. I walked along and stepped into a small mall sim city.

Sim city is famous for selling pirated softwares, games and adult videos. This mall has tried to evolute to become a trendy mall selling digital products. But unfortunately it failed to succeed.

This time is the biggest joke ever. The mall tried to hold a 4 day event and invite different vendors to set up their booth here.

3D Desktop

Recently, I have played around different linux distro to see what kind of 3D Desktop they provide. Namely they are Ubuntu 6.10, OpenSUSE 10.1, Debian Sid, Fedora Core 6 and Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10.

For all of these candidates, ONLY Novell SLED is under commerical license when other are free. And another fact is that only Debian Sid is not at production stage (Debian Sarge is not capable to get XGL enabled).

Im not going to comment in a developer's point of view. What I emphaze is the the EASE of use. I dont see any point when we need to configure a lot with a dozen of commands to make a simple feature works.

I used a pretty old machine to carry out the test myself. What is important for 3D Desktop is actually the display card, what i have here is an ati radeon 7000 .

Among all 5 distros named before, one scored very high marks and one failed to start 3D desktop. Guess what?

SLED scored the highest in my scoreboard. 3D Desktop is so simple here. Just one click to enable is what I really need after installation. And the control panel is easy to use and feature-rich. This really fits what novell's claim -- Your Linux is ready.

OpenSUSE managed to pass. Although 3D Desktop is not installed in default settings. There are pretty enough documents inside opensuse's community and once setup is finished, it looks more or less the same like SLED.

Ubuntu, the most popular distro right now, is also ok. Just like OpenSUSE, 3D Desktop is not installed in default but there are tons of documents on the web, u just need to find a right one for yourself.

Debian, the well known server OS, only the testing version sid is capable to get 3D Desktop enabled. What you need is to upgrade your sarge to sid and also a lot more steps.

Fedora Core 6, another popular distro, I am not able to get 3D desktop work on my radeon 7000, but it works great on my nvidia 6600GT. Although it works great on my 6600GT, it seems to be lack of features to me. There is no panel to config effects, no guide on how to use different effects.
